Haleakala
Our second morning in Maui we decided to watch the sunrise at the Haleakala crater. This entailed us getting up by 2:30 am and being to the crater by 5:30 am. Good thing we were used to Texas time. When I think of Maui I do not think of chilly temperatures but let me tell you I was glad I dress warm. I think the normal temperature before sunrise is 40 to 50 degrees F. It was a very beautiful sunrise and looked like we were on a different planet. The scary thing was an older gentleman in his 80s had collapsed. There was luckily a doctor in the crowd and was able to help. They called an ambulance which did not get there until several hours later. (The crater drive is not an easy one and far from any towns) He was ok though. That is what counts!
